Weekend Recap

Life is oh so good! I had an absolutely fabulous weekend that I'm still smiling about...

Friday was Mustache Bash! My friends took me out to TinFish in Novi for a really nice dinner. Afterwards we all put on fake mustaches and headed to a dive bar near my apartment. It was a blast!

On Saturday I met up with one of college besties to go shopping and grab lunch. I ended up buying a cute new wallet from Coach, Lush bath bombs, and some makeup from MAC.

Sunday was another fun day when I met up with another bestie & one of her co-worker's & his family to see the ice sculptures at the Plymouth ice festival.

With my trip to Lake Placid & my birthday week, I skipped out on my workouts. I was so busy & didn't want to stress myself out over getting them in. This week it's back to the grind. My goal is to lay low for the next month & focus on getting ready for the Seaside half marathon on March 6th.

Last night's workout was supposed to be 5 miles on the treadmill. About 2 miles in my shins & calves were getting sore so I cut it back to 3 miles. To make up for it I did 20 mins on the elliptical. This morning was the FIT class at my gym.

Leavin' on a jet plane....

Pic from here

I'm so giddy with excitment...tonight I'm heading to NYC to see one of my BFF's. The same one that I went to visit last month. This time we are driving up to Lake Placid for the weekend & staying at the house in the picture above.

Triple Fail

I had a great weekend that as usual went by way to fast! I relaxed at home Friday night before heading off to a 10:40pm soccer game. It was my third soccer game of the week and I was feeling it. It was a fun game that left me wired when I got home so I couldn't sleep right away. I had big plans with Big Red to get a long run in Saturday morning. We were aiming for 10 miles. As we got going, my shins were in so much pain that I was struggling big time. I stopped several times to stretch with hopes that the pain would go away. After about 3 miles, I just couldn't take it anymore and we changed our route and headed home. I think I ended up with 4.5 miles. This is fail one, I was really bummed about it. Luckily, I had a hair appointment that made me feel better and I decided to just be happy with the miles that I did get. After all, I did get a lot in last week. Maybe too much, too soon? Then later on in evening I headed to BR's house to make fake mustaches for my birthday party on the 21st (it's a mustache themed party). Lots of giggles ensued with that activity! Sunday was a planned day off. It was also Big Red's Bridal shower. She looked so pretty in her purple & white dress and the shower was short & sweet. The second fail came in last night...I had plans of running at the gym but I was stressing about getting packed for my trip this weekend and by the time I made dinner & had my clothes laid out, I was too exhausted to get a workout in. So I thought I'd go to bed early and lift in the morning and I couldn't get out of bed for that (fail #3). I guess sleep was calling me. So now it's time to regroup & make the best of time that I have this week...I'm heading to New York Thursday evening until Tuesday morning and I know my workouts will be slim to none while away.

I couldn't be happier that it's Friday. I'm exhausted! I had a dentist appointment yesterday and was happy to not have any cavities. I was kind of expecting once since I had been eating a lot of candy & drinking pop there for a while. Since I got out of work early & the dentist appointment went quick, I had time to head to the gym for their barbell strength class. It was a good one but I was working pretty hard. I've been trying to add some strength training into my workouts and this was the perfect class. After wards I met up with BR to get some miles in. We were planning on 6, but I had to drop it down to 4 because my shins were hurting.

New Year Resolutions

I don't normally set New Year Resolutions but I decided that I would set a few simple ones and see how it goes.

1. Take the stairs more
I work on the 5th floor of my building and I often just take the elevator up. Since the new year I have yet to take it and I've been making my way up & down the stairs.

2. Track my mileage. That's why it's been on the blog.

3. Drink more water. I've been keeping a water bottle at my desk and trying to remind myself to keep drinking it. Especially when I think I'm hungry.

4. Read one book at month. I just started reading The Namesake (again, I love that book).

5. Reduce salt intake. I like salt. A lot. So I'm trying to use spices more and salt less.

I skipped out on a run last night since I was sore, tired, & had a soccer game. I'm glad I did but I hate putting down a "0" for my daily mileage.

My 3 workouts yesterday kicked my butt! I'm exhausted but it feels oh so good.

I ran with Big Red last night and got an easy 4 miles in before heading off to soccer. Luckily I had about and hour & a half in between the two so I was able to make some pasta for dinner and get a 15 min nap in. My team lost our game but we had a really nice second half and I had sweet goal. That always makes me feel good.

It was rough getting out of bed today but I felt good once I got moving.

Tonight is another soccer game and since it's in Ann Arbor I'll just stick around town until my game. I've been trying to decide if I want to just relax or try to get some more miles in.

3 in a row...

I'm on day 3 of consecutive workouts. I've somehow managed to find a little motivation & I'm going with it. Part of my New Years Resolution (more on that later) is to get organized and put more of an effort into logging my workouts. Last night I went up to the gym to do some speed work on the dreadmill. I warmed up for 10 mins at a 9:40/mile pace. Then I did 4 x 800 with 2 mins recovery in between. The first 800 was at 8:00/mile, the 2 & 3 @ 8:15/mile, & the 4th at 8:30/mile. Then I ran until 4 miles at about a 9:00/mile pace. Then slowed it back down to a 9:40 to finish out 5 miles. This morning I was up early to go to the FIT class at the gym. It's a very challenging strength training class that works multiple muscles at a time.

Sunday Re-Cap

The last day of vacation before getting into the New Year was a good one. I was able to sleep in a bit before heading out for a run with friends. We got 9 miles in on Hines drive.

After a warm shower, a soup & salad lunch, and a little nap, I met up with BR, Tony & Nate to see Black Swan. It was really intense but I loved it.

Tonight I'm hoping for a 4 mile run on the treadmill.
